My name is Michelle Paisano, I am a Graduate student in the Art Education/Art Studio Department at the University of New Mexico. I will be receiving my MA in Art Education with Teaching Licensure in May 2020. I am excited to finally have the opportunity to finish my MA program as I put it on hold for many years. My goal, as a widow, was to have my three sons finish their undergraduate degrees before I started on my Masters program.
I am additionally, a practicing artist, a clay sculptor, and have chosen to focus my discipline on clay sculpture, pottery, and clay vessels which has been my medium since 1984. I am from the Laguna and Acoma Pueblos where I believe in promoting Art Education and investing in American Indian Art!
I have chosen to pursue teaching art education and developing curriculum in Culture-Based Art Education (CBAE) as there are no art education programs in the schools on the Laguna, Acoma, and To’hajiilee reservations within these under-represented communities where I now reside. I have 34+ years teaching art, I would like to bring K-12 CBAE programs into these underserved populations.
I attaching my digital portfolio to give you an idea of who I am as an artist and art educator:
